Tesselation... Think M.C.Escher, with the interlocking lizards, birds and fish. We have created huge puzzle pieces so that ALL AGES can see if they can figure out how to put them together. The pieces are colorable for the youngest ones-and wipeable for reuse.
Tessellation is an art term (and a math term) for when a shape repeats while still interlocking
(think M.C. Escher with the interlocking birds, fish and lizards). With this exhibit, you can
offer a HUGE puzzle for kids AND adults to see if they can visualize out how it works. AND we
offer interesting ”How it Works” exhibit panels for people to read and learn more.
We include approx 250 puzzle pieces for your attendees to play with and color. Pieces are approx
13”x7” and made of 1/8” or 1/4” plastic. The front side is printed with an outline of one of three
imaginary characters we are highlighting in this exhibit. They have a velcro strip on the back so
they will stick to our felt tarp. They can be colored, and then wiped.
The puzzle pieces are coated with a laminate that allows pieces to be colored with regular crayons,
then wiped clean later for reuse.
Based on demand from PARENTS at events, we plan to offer you take-home books (featuring the tessellation
ideas in the exhibit panels) that the parrents can take home and work with the kids. It is a great
sponsorship activation. Since these will be mass-printed, we will offer color stickers than can have
your sponsors logo.
The most economical shipping for this
is to go by freight on a pallet. We will arrange the freight service, but the cost is NOT included,
and must be covered by your office on delivery and pickup.
Imagine puzzle pieces that take some thought to figure out how they
go together. Some people get it quickly, some have to think harder. Either way, it's fun to see
people working together to fit all their pieces together.
Kids can COLOR their pieces with crayons, so then they WANT to try to fit it in with all the other pieces.
We're created an "Introduction to Tessellation" which shows some of the basic
ideas that make tessellation work. It's full of easy-to-follow graphics and examples.
The underlying theme is that it's easy to create tessellating shapes, but where art & math collide is in
creating shapes that you can imagine as birds, turtles, fish, etc. See the Take-Home Books link in 'More Info'.
Rental of approx 300 puzzle pieces, Felt Tarp as a velcro board for pieces, hexagon stand and six exhibit panels.
Price is PER WEEKEND. Freight (approx $125 each way) is extra. You will be charged $5 each for lost puzzle pieces.
